Day 1: Australia – Amsterdam, Netherlands (In-flight Meals)
Depart from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth today, flying Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, Cathay Pacific Airlines or other, subject to availability. Note: Due to flight times and scheduling, some customers may be required to depart the day before (Day 0).
Day 2: Amsterdam, Netherlands (D)
Upon arrival into Amsterdam, make your way to the hotel to meet your Tour Leader and fellow passengers. This evening, travel with your group into Amsterdam centre for a canal cruise. Dine on pizza and ice cream and explore the city from the water. Gain an alternative perspective of this eclectic and bohemian city, while drifting past famous landmarks and learning some of Amsterdam’s fascinating history.
Day 3: Amsterdam – Brussels – Paris (Approx 515kms) (B, D)
Depart Amsterdam after breakfast this morning, en route to Paris, France. Your coach will stop at the capital of Belgium; Brussels, with time to see famous landmarks such as the Mannekin Pis statue and the Atomium. In the afternoon travel on to Paris: ‘The City of Lights and Love’. Enjoy a driving tour of the French capital, passing many of the city’s most treasured landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe. After the city tour, enjoy dinner at a restaurant in the famously electric and historic Latin Quarter. Then travel back to the hotel, experiencing Paris’ world-famous metro system.
Day 4: Paris (B)
Enjoy a full day in Paris today, free to explore however you choose. Paris has so much to experience, regardless of the time of day or season. Follow the Seine River from neighbourhood to neighbourhood as it flows through the heart of the city. Or, choose a river cruise to float past the grandeur of the Lourve and Grand Palais, see the fire damaged Notre Dame cathedral and epic Eiffel Tower. Famous architecture and legendary landmarks are scattered through the compact city, along with elegant shops and sophisticated cafes. Your Tour Leader will have plenty of ideas and local knowledge, including recommendations of special places to eat and drink.
Day 5: Paris – Burgundy – Swiss Alps (Approx 700kms) (B, D)
After breakfast this morning, depart Paris and travel south to Beaune, in the beautiful Burgundy region. After time to explore the town and enjoy a local lunch and wine (not included), take the stunningly scenic drive east across France into the Swiss Alps. On arrival into the alpine region, enjoy a relaxed dinner at your hotel.
Day 6: Swiss Alps(B)
Enjoy a full day of free time in Switzerland’s wonderful Alps. Relax and enjoy the amazing views from your hotel or explore nearby Engelberg; feast on Swiss chocolate fondue, sight-see and do some souvenir shopping, or just wander through the town, taking in the views and fresh, Alpine air. Optionally, your tour leader can arrange a full day excursion to the top of Mount Titlis, with its year-round snow-covered peak. The cable car journey up the mountain is a highlight, providing panoramic views of mountains, lakes and glaciers.
Day 7: Swiss Alps – Pisa – Montecatini Terme (Approx 590kms) (B)
Leave the mountains after early breakfast this morning, as the coach travels south out of Switzerland and into Italy. Stop for the essential photo opportunity at the Leaning Tower of Pisa! The world-famous 840 year old Bell Tower is immaculately presented and one of the most popular cultural European landmarks. Onward this afternoon through the remarkable Tuscan region – famous for exquisite wine, food, art and architecture. End the day in Montecatini Terme, a lovely spa town north-west of Florence. Soak up the Tuscan sunset with some delicious local food and wine.
Day 8: Montecini Terme – Florence – Rome (Approx 340kms) (B)
After the short drive into Florence this morning, explore the stunning Renaissance city with your Tour Leader on an orientation tour. Then, continue on through the Italian countryside to incredible Rome, the 2,300 year-old capital of Italy. Explore the heart of the city on your own, or join an optional tour, such as a guided walking tour or a guided visit to Vatican City, including the Sistine Chapel.
Day 9: Rome (B)
Have a slow start today, with the full day free for your own adventures, some relaxation or one of the optional tours your tour guide can recommend on the day, including a visit to the Colosseum or landmarks walking tour. The meandering streets of the old city are lined with breathtaking architecture, home to many wonderful galleries, museums, shops and gelaterias!
Day 10: Rome – Venice (Approx 525km) (B)
Rome city makes way for scenery as the coach travels to Venice. See vineyards, orchards and majestic mountains pass by from your vantage point. On arrival into Venice, your tour leader will introduce the city with an orientation walk – then use free time in the early evening to explore. See the world-famous St Mark’s Square, Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge. The evening is free, with hundreds of local restaurants and bars to discover in winding alleys and hidden piazzas. Consider exploring Venice the traditional way – from the canals. Your tour leader can arrange for gondola and water taxi rides for a canal-based perspective of the beautiful palaces, villas and bridges that comprise this very special city.
Day 11: Venice – Munich – Bavaria (Approx 626km) (B, D)
After breakfast this morning, set off from Venice for another remarkable journey through some of Europe’s finest scenery. Travel through the towering Dolomites and into the lush verdant valleys of Austria and Germany. An orientation tour in Munich will introduce you to the famous Karlsplatz and Marienplatz as well as provide an insight into some of the region’s rich history. A short drive onward, brings us to the lovely small city of Bavaria. Dinner tonight will be enjoyed together at a traditional German beer hall.
Day 12: Bavaria – Nuremberg – Berlin (Approx 550kms) (B, D)
Leaving Bavaria behind after breakfast today, the coach stops in Nuremberg. Having served as a residence for German kings over centuries, Nuremberg is architecturally stunning, with beautifully restored medieval and gothic buildings. Then drive on to Berlin, Germany’s capital. On arrival, a driving tour through the city will reveal some of the city’s famous landmarks. Berlin is a fascinating city that reflects decades of regeneration: Reminders of the past are everywhere, but Berlin has a vibrant culture with sightseeing and activities to appeal to all visitors.
Day 13: Berlin (B)
Take a full day of free time in fascinating Berlin. Explore more of the city on foot and via the excellent public transport; visit some of the museums and galleries that Berlin is so respected for; or ask your Tour Leader about special activities and optional tours. Berlin has a thriving dining scene, with excellent cafés, bars and world famous nightlife.
Day 14: Berlin – Amsterdam (Approx 655km) (B)
It’s the final leg of your Classic European trip today, as you depart Berlin and head through Germany back into the Netherlands. A relaxing stop will include a chance to try delicious local cheese, visit one of the Netherland’s ubiquitous windmills and learn about the traditional wooden clog. After checking in at your hotel, the evening is free to make the most of your last night in Amsterdam, a city with almost endless dining and entertainment options!
Day 15 Amsterdam – Australia (B, In-flight Meals)
After breakfast this morning, check out and make your own way to the airport for your flight home.
