Day 1: Australia – London, United Kingdom (In-flight Meals)
Depart from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth today, flying Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, Cathay Pacific Airlines or other, subject to availability. Note: Due to flight times and scheduling, some customers may be required to depart the day before (Day 0).
Day 2: Arrive London, England (inflight meals)
Upon arrival into London, be met and transferred to your Greenwich hotel for the evening. Greenwich is a popular historic neighbourhood in East London, with attractions and great dining options.
Day 3: London – Somme – Paris (approx. 300kms) (B, D)
Depart London this morning, en route to Paris, France. Your coach will stop at in the Somme region in Northern France. Famously the site of some of history’s most devastating combat, the now picturesque area was the site of the Battle of the Somme and remains a significant memorial. In the afternoon travel on to Paris: ‘The City of Lights’. Enjoy a driving tour of the French capital, passing many of the city’s most treasured landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe. After the city tour, enjoy dinner at a restaurant in the famously eclectic and historic Latin Quarter. Then travel back to the hotel, experiencing Paris’ world-famous metro system.
Day 4: Paris (B)
Enjoy a full free day in Paris today. Follow the Seine River from neighbourhood to neighbourhood as it flows through the heart of the city. Or, choose a river cruise to float past the grandeur of the Louvre and Grand Palais, see the fire damaged Notre Dame cathedral and epic Eiffel Tower. Famous architecture and legendary landmarks are scattered through the compact city, along with elegant shops and sophisticated cafes. Your Tour Leader will have plenty of ideas and local knowledge, including recommendations of special places to eat and drink.
Day 5: Paris (B, L)
After breakfast at the hotel this morning, we set off to visit two of the finest châteaux in France, a short drive from Paris city centre. First, Château de Fontainebleau and, in the afternoon, Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. Both châteaux have their own unique and fascinating history, old-world architecture, sprawling formal gardens and elegant interior. In between visits stop by the beautiful artist village of Barbizon for lunch at a traditional creperie.
Day 6: Paris – Burgundy – Swiss Alps (approx 700kms) (B, D)
After breakfast this morning, depart Paris and travel south to Beaune, in the beautiful Burgundy region. After time to explore the town and enjoy a local lunch and wine (not included), take the stunningly scenic drive east across France into the Swiss Alps. On arrival into the alpine region, enjoy a relaxed dinner at your hotel.
Day 7: Swiss Alps (B)
Enjoy a full day of free time in Switzerland’s Alps. Relax and enjoy amazing views of the Jungfrau region from the cosy alpine hotel, or join an optional group tour to Jungfraujoch, the highest train station in Europe. Observe soaring snow-capped mountains and look out for traditional villages nestled in valleys. Visit the magical Ice Palace and Sphinx Observation Terrace, where the views from 3,466 metres are incredible. At this altitude snow is guaranteed throughout the year.
Day 8: Swiss Alps (B)
Spend another full day in Wilderswil, in the picturesque Swiss Alps. Explore the pretty village and surrounding countryside at your own pace. Or, join your tour leader on an optional excursion to beautiful Lucerne, travelling via Altdorf, the home of William Tell, the Swiss patriot and national symbol. Stop at the Victorinox (Swiss Army knife) visitor centre and cruise spectacular Lake Lucerne. This afternoon enjoy free time in Lucerne before the scenic drive back to Wilderswil.
Day 9: Swiss Alps – Strasbourg – Heidelberg (approx. 418km) (B)
After early breakfast today, depart the Alps for Strasbourg, France. This historic town is brimming with German and French influences and is best explored on foot. Strolling through the streets, look out for Strasbourg Cathedral and take in the lovely Rhine River views. Then, continue north into Germany and the baroque town of Heidelberg. Once checked in, the evening is free to enjoy as you like. This region is renowned for both savory and sweet specialty foods and excellent beers.
Day 10: Heidelberg – Cologne – Amsterdam (approx. 510kms) (B, D)
The scenic drive continues to Cologne this morning. The 2,000-year-old city is dominated by striking High Gothic architecture, including the tallest cathedral in the world. Take in views of the Rhine River and soak up the local lifestyle. Later, arrive in Amsterdam. Experience the iconic capital of the Netherlands from an included dinner cruise of the city’s iconic canals. See Amsterdam’s historic architecture and other sights from the water.
Day 11: Amsterdam (B)
Enjoy a slow start and free day to explore Amsterdam at your own pace today. Optionally, join your tour leader on an excursion including visits to traditional clog and cheese factories and a working windmill. Head to the historic fishing village of Volendam, illustrating what Amsterdam would have looked like centuries ago. There is time to wander the streets, discover cafes and shop for local souvenirs. Once back in Amsterdam, the rest of the afternoon is free.
Day 12: Amsterdam – Bruges – London (approx. 538km) (B)
After breakfast at the hotel this morning, head to the historic Belgian city of Bruges. Explore meandering canals and picturesque walkways in the “Venice of the North”. Later, it’s onward to London, crossing the English Channel along the way. After checking in to your Greenwich hotel this afternoon, spend the rest of the day and evening as you please.
Day 13: London – Australia (B, inflight meals)
Enjoy a last morning in London before being transferred to the airport for your flight home.
